Great Lakes Freight Rail
The concept of Rail Line Corridor Committees (a/k/a “RLCCs” or singular “RLCC”) has been in the WCGroup/LSSA arsenal since early in the days of the “CN Advisory Board” but was not deployed in the absence of a clearly articulated strategic plan for the CN/WC and Great Lakes Forests Region. The result of the CN’s “Wisconsin – Northern Michgan Branch Line Proposed Divestiture” became a de facto strategic plan when announced in late July 2020 with its first tangible event announcement on March 30, 2021 of the award of various CN/WC lines to Watco.
As a consequence WCGroup/LSSA, with local representatives, launched its first RLCC, the White Pine Rail Line Corridor Committee (“White Pine RLCC”), on April 30, 2021. The purpose of a WCGroup/LSSA Rail Line Corridor Committee is to bring together interested local stakeholders – shippers and public sector and other stakeholders – for discussion and concerted action. We expect that WCG/LSSA RLCCs will be mostly self-directed.
We expect the establishment of WCG/LSSA RLCCs will follow the pattern previously identified on the LSSA Wisconsin / Upper Michigan Rail Line Corridors Map.
White Pine Rail Line Corridor Committee
As reported in the Iron County Miner 5/6/2021.
Stakeholders of the Ashland RLCC participated in the White Pine RLCC initial meeting (4/30/2021) and are in the process of establishing the Ashland RLCC. The Ashland and White Pine RLCCs are expected to work closely together.
Principal shippers interested in the Hwy8 RLC and other stakeholders met at Tomahawk at the PCA Mill’s Training Center (with online access) 4/28/2022. See advance Suggested Topics List and draft Hwy8 RLC Report of Proceedings 4/28/2022. The Hwy8 RLCC requested formation of a Rail Line Corridor Coordinating Committee (pending). Following the meeting a principal shipper volunteered to serve as Chair of the Hwy8 RLCC.
